At the Universal Banking Project we envision a world where anyone--in any country--can access and control their money without the costly friction caused by the existing banking system.
We believe that, just as communications has been forever changed by mobile phone technology, the economics, speed, and service levels of banking and payments will undergo a similar transformation.
Our mission is to increase and preserve family wealth by making financial inclusion ubiquitous.
Our perspective is that, in a digitized and networked world, access to and control of money is no longer a privilege for those who can afford it. Access to and control of money is as necessary to a well-functioning economy as are paved roads. Indeed, we would argue that the tolls levied in the existing banking system impede commerce and constrain economic livelihoods.
Universal Banking can now be implemented with low cost mobile phones, distributed ledgers using blockchain, and digital asset technologies. Enabling access and control with these technologies can leapfrog antiquated systems, benefiting not just individuals but generating positive societal network effects as well.
Enabling financial inclusion has a positive impact on family wealth and preservation. As the basic building blocks of communities, families are central to our mission and focus because we believe that a population that understands how to invest in itself--in its family--is a community with healthy social capital.
Financial inclusion is not a spectator sport--we reject the idea of educated "consumers" of financial services. Financial inclusion to us means that transaction accounts, savings, and investments are used to actively create and preserve family wealth.
We educate the general public in the USA, Latin America, and Africa, advocate for policies that further financial inclusion, and promote the use of innovative technologies.
